A Load of Icons and an Announcement
You won't know what hit your screen when I get done tonight. I have icons for Kingdom of Heaven, The Lion in Winter (the original one), The Hours, and Mozilla Firefox. Underneath this cut, there are 82 icons awaiting you. But, first, an important announcement:

The days of this journal are limited. I don't plan to delete it, however, I don't intend to update it either. Never fear! There will still be icons, wallpapers, journal headers, tutorials--all the stuff you've come to expect from me. Actually, there will be more than just that. I've opened my design blog up and am using it as a general blog, where I'll still have a good emphasis on graphics and web-design. The blog has been moved to here, and I encourage you to check it out "in person" at least once because... um, it has pretty pictures and I spent lots of time designing the templates. If you don't like simply handing its RSS feed to your news aggregator of choice, [info]trygve has created your solution: [info]gnomeblog. It's currently showing the wrong feed, but LJ is fixing that as I type, so don't worry.

Now, for the stuff you actually care about:

Before I start in with the icons: yes, this set has a lot of icons that look simplistic, but that doesn't mean I spent little time on them. I just felt like the movies lended themselves to a simple, clean design. That and all the wonderful lines in The Lion in Winter (which everyone should see) are too long to fit on an icon.

The Lion in Winter - what a GREAT movie! I was obsessed with it and all historical films as a kid. Have you ever seen Lady Jane, the movie about Jane Grey? It's a good one.

And I will probably take one or more Firefox ones. I <3 Firefox.

I don't think I've seen Lady Jane, though I'm certain I've heard of it. I'll have to keep my eyes open. Maybe my library has it.

Everyone should <3 Firefox ;-)

Actually, I was checking out your site, and snagged this one instead. I like the more vibrant colors.

Also, is it okay if I use your icons on my JF account? I have them credited as 'gnomicons on LJ'.

Lovely Firefox icons, because Firefox rocks my socks! #81 and #82 warm my little geeky heart! ♥

Pity you desert your icon LJ. I'll make sure to check out your blog though. :)

I couldn't resist the web standards ones. I told myself that I was being overly geeky but... but standards complience! It's ridiculous to see how IE fails in that.

Oh, desert is a harsh word, don't you think? I mean, it seems a little redundant to me to be archiving things here, on my site, and going to some LJ communities to post them. I think part of the reason I don't post icons as much is because it involves so much running around. And anyways, since there's a syndicated account set up that's feeding from my site's blog, people can still see on their friends list that I've made new icons.

I know what you mean! And what baffles me even more is how so-called professional designers still don't give a flying fuck about WC3 standards.

I guess I'm too much of a feedback whore to mind the running around. I'd happily wave my icons under everybody's noses for a morsel of feedback. *g*

PS: There is no such thing as "overly geeky". ;)

I'll admit that I'm not perfect with my WC3 standards and my sites don't always validate completely in terms of XHTML and CSS, but they generally come close, and I do engage in cross-browser tests to make sure that things render properly. But it absolutely astounds me to see how screwed up IE can be about things. My current annoyance is their complete and total disregard for the tag. It's quite possibly one of the most useful tags I've come across and IE ignores it entirely.

I guess I'm too much of a feedback whore to mind the running around. I'd happily wave my icons under everybody's noses for a morsel of feedback. *g*

I think that I've gotten to the point where I've more or less stopped caring. I mean, I love getting comments and feedback, but I don't really feel like chasing after attention anymore. I've pretty much stopped even looking at icon communities (I'm boycotting [info]takenote_icons), let alone playing in contests and stuff. I'm more concerned with making icons of subjects that I like that are hopefully nice enough that some people will decide to use them. And I still actually get quite a few comments on my site's tagboard, so that feeds my ego, too ;-)

P.S.--There may be no such thing as "overly geeky", but there is "geeky enough to scare people away", which happens surprisingly often ;-)

Tags are very nifty, though I don't really have figured out yet if I have use for them on any of my sites. *g*

I wish I wouldn't care so much for comments and feedback on my icons. Good for you though. :)

but there is "geeky enough to scare people away", which happens surprisingly often

Uhm. *eyedart* ;)

Ha! I now notice that LJ was stupid and didn't print the tag I was referring to: the < abbr > tag. Since I end up writing about engineering and science and web design stuff on my various sites, it's useful to be able to give someone the full name without having to clutter the page with the full name everytime I write it.

I think it's something that you grow out of maybe. I just got to the point where I was fed up waiting for approval from this person or that person. I don't have a ton of time laying around for these things, so I should make them for myself first and foremost. *shrug*

When I go to a uni made up a geeks, nerds, and dorks and I can still scare people away, I know I'm well past "geeky enough". It's scary when I go home to visit my family, sometimes ;-)

Great subjects for icons!

I've snagged 29, 30, 41, 44 with hopes that I might one day use it for some writing project (will credit, of course), and also 48 and 77.

By the way, thanks for pimping Firefox- I think I'd been using the normal Mozilla until you mentioned Firefox in one of your posts; and the internet (for me) has never been the same since. :D IE must die!

Thank you!

I like the writer ones myself and need to upload one or two of them to various places ;-)

You're very welcome! I'm glad to convert anyone I can. Just last week I typed a virtual treatise to L and B on the reasons that Firefox was better than IE. Really, it's impossible to know how great the Internet can be until you experience Firefox ;-)

(Don't worry, I'm not trying to go on a rant or convert anyone, I just wish my preferred browser got as many icons as FF. *g*)

For what it's worth, if I used Opera, I'd probably make Opera icons. But I prefer not paying for my browser and not having it driven by ads. I'm just glad that you don't use IE. It's stamping out the non-WC3 web standards that's important, right? ;-)

Heh, and I'm quite glad to be paying (by ads) for an excellent product such as Opera. But I'll agree there, using Firefox is better than using IE. ;) And I gotta give it to FF users - you have a way cuter logo to make icons of.

The solution to this would be to bother Opera into letting this fellow do a new logo for you. He's the one who made the logos for Firefox and Thunderbird. ;-)
